FIRST: Jesus First in Everything – Colossians 1:15-20 – Pastor Tim
FIRST – Jesus first in my finances
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.
Old Testament: Genesis 14:18-20, Genesis 28, Leviticus 27:30, Numbers 18:21, Deuteronomy 14:24, 2 Chronicles 31:5
New Testament: Matthew 23 Jesus corrects the Pharisees AND upholds the tithe
Malachi 3:10 (6-12)
Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.
Decisions of trust – motivated by love – given with joy – blesses you an others.
Deuteronomy 14:23 – the purpose of tithing is to teach you to always put God first in your life
Tithing has less to do with money and more to do with the first-ness of God. Its a matter of trust.
Money is a spiritual matter because it is a matter of the heart (Matthew 6:19-21)
Where you treasure is – that’s where your heart is
2 Corinthians 9:7 (6-15)
Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
